Tired of waiting?
One lesson I’ve learned well through the years is that God’s timeline and my timeline often don’t match up. Even now I wait for a prayer to be answered… a prayer I’ve been praying for many months! My timeline had God answering my prayer in weeks. Yet those weeks became months and now those months are heading into years.
I know others who are walking the path of waiting. I have a friend waiting for a husband from God. I know couples waiting for a baby. I know others waiting for God’s healing.
This blog is for those who are waiting.
As I read in 1 Samuel 13 this morn, I couldn’t help shaking my head at the newly appointed King Saul. Part of the head shaking comes because I can identify with old Saul.
Saul had called the men of Israel to gather to fight the Philistines. The enemy got wind of the plan and gathered in force. So much force that the Hebrews scattered in fear to hide in caves, pits, and cisterns.
As Saul watched his army scatter his confidence faltered. Even though he had worked out a plan for Samuel the priest to come sacrifice to the Lord and bless them, Saul grew impatient. After the 7the day arrived, the day Samuel was to be in their camp, Saul got so impatient he offered the burnt offering… a job only a priest was to do according to God’s commands. Check out the next verses-
“Just as he finished making the offering, Samuel arrived and Saul went out to greet him. ‘What have you done?’ asked Samuel.” – 1 Samuel 13: 10-11
Saul explained the situation and why he acted. Samuel told him he was foolish and that his kingdom would not endure because he did not keep the Lord’s command.
What really blows my mind is that Saul waited over 6 days. He was almost to the appointed time but didn’t wait for the 7th day to be completed. Saul acted rashly by taking matters into his own hands but then immediately after he did Samuel showed up… while it was still the 7th day!
Samuel had agreed to the 7th day and he kept to the plan showing up at just the right moment.
God has a plan for us that is good. So good that he won’t give us what we want early if waiting will be even better.
Waiters- be encouraged today in your waiting! God has a plan that is perfect and he will roll it out in his perfect timing. So don’t fret! God knows you want a husband, a child, healing, a job, a prodigal to return home, …
Keep waiting. Keep trusting. Keep praising him and growing in Him while you wait!
God, thank you fro this reminder to wait on you. Help me trust you when the plan takes some twists and turns that last longer than I thought they would. I believe your plan is best so I want to keep waiting for you! Amen!
