thirsty

With mouth so parched my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth, there is but one true fix- WATER! Some time ago I made a decision to drink more water and less soda/sweet tea. At first, my actions were forced but then an odd phenomenon took place. The more I drank water the more I desired water over other drinks. Now I seldom drink soda and only occasionally drink tea. After my morning coffee, I can be found with my cup filled with ice and water for nothing else will satisfy.

In David’s words I find my need for water taken to the spiritual realm.

“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirst for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1

When my thirst is great, I can drink a soda. However my thirst is not quenched by soda the way water does so I am left thirsty still. Only water truly satisfies.

Inside the heart of every person is a thirst placed there by the Creator that only he can satisfy. We can try to quench the thirst with many options- relationships, money, power, fame, religion, success, drugs, etc. Satan through this world offers many substitutes but each is like the cheap toy that seems so cool but after buying quickly stops working.

The thirst inside of each of us for more understanding, love, purpose, peace, and belonging is only found in knowing Jesus as Savior. Only He can satisfy in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Lord, I thirst for You! The more I know You, the greater my thirst for You grows! Only You can satisfy the thirst within me so I earnestly seek You! Show me the way, take me into your presence, sit me down at your feet and teach me. Quench my thirst as ONLY You can! Amen
