Sing with Thanksgiving

After a hard workout last night, I needed a shower. As the soap and warm water flowed, I was cleansed, refreshed, and renewed. Opening the Word of God is often like stepping into a hot shower. The Bible cleans me up and refreshes my soul.

As I opened the Word today, I was thinking about Thanksgiving being tomorrow. Imagine my delight when I see the next chapter on my path had the word ‘thanksgiving’. The theme of the passage is still refreshing my soul so let me share-

“Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp. He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Psalm 147: 7-11

My heart thrills at these verses. Just think, the God who manages all things- the cloud cover, the food supplies for animals, and the grass that blankets the earth- loves me and you! But there is more! God’s pleasure doesn’t depend on my strength or my perfection! God delights, not tolerates, but DELIGHTS in those who put their hope in him.

God delights in me.

I just need to write that again because my heart struggles to take in.

God delights in me.

Not because I’m good. Not because I’m trying (and failing) to be perfect. Not because I’m good a following the rules. Not because I go to church or listen to podcasts.

God delights in me because I put hope in his love. Because I believe he loves me. Because I fear and reverence his name.

I may not have a harp but my heart is singing to God with thanksgiving!

Soak it in today and be refreshed! God loves you! God delights in you, not because you are perfect or checking off a to-do list but because you put hope in him and in his love!

May Thanksgiving rise up in your heart too!

Lord, I am so amazed that as the Creator of this world and supplier of all needs, you delight in me! Thank you! May your name be praised forever. Bless the name of the Lord! Amen
