One of the skill sets I’m supposed to be developing in my math students is the practice of persevering through a problem until a solution is found. Too often students glance at a problem and decide they can’t do it or they try one time then stop when it they don’t get it right the first time. Can I just say this is a difficult pattern of behavior to develop in students!
I wonder if this same kind of situation is what my Father has to deal with in me. Maybe this is why he has to reteach many lessons to me multiple times… like the one yesterday and the one today. Yes, I definitely see a pattern. Help me, Lord, to learn and apply your truths!
As I read some verses in Luke, I thought about how I really needed to be reminded of this truth- yet again! Yes, I’ve heard it before. Yes, I believe it. But, no, I don’t always persevere as I should.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” -Luke 11: 9-10
I don’t know if anyone else needed this reminder today but I did. Don’t give up! Keep praying! Persevere! Each step up from ask to seek to knock was rewarded with a greater return from receives to finds to an open door. I’m going for the open door on some requests very dear to my heart.
Lord, not only do I find a reminder in these verses to persevere, I also see your promise to respond! I can’t tell you how awesome and overwhelming it is to know the God of the universe listens to my prayers and stands ready to open the doors when I persevere! Thank you, Lord, for hearing and answering prayers! Thank you for speaking your beautiful truths to my heart through the Word! Thank you for just being who you are! My heart sings for joy in your Presence this morning, Lord. Amen!
