No hide & seek God

A ‘peek-a-boo’ game with a baby is one of the great joys of life. The full belly laughs and squeals so freely pouring out of the child can’t help but bring smiles to adults. As the child grows, so do their hide-n-seek skills though for a bit she believes herself well hidden if she can’t see the seeker.

Many seem to believe God plays a hide-n-seek game. If they do not see God, they doubt his existence. What they need to know is God can easily be found if they truly seek.

Back when Asa sat on Judah’s throne, the king was fully committed to God and he wanted to bring the people he led back to God. He tore down the idols and repaired the altar at the temple. He assembled the people and led the worship with numerous sacrifices. The result?

“They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul… They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them.” 2 Chronicles 15: 12, 15

Later Jeremiah would write-

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:12

God is not playing hard-to-get. He isn’t trying to win the hide-n-seek game by remaining out of sight. He wants searchers to seek. God is all around us waiting for us to open our eyes seek and see.

Sometimes, however, we equate seeing God with understanding God. NOT the same! The feeble mind of humans as complex and intelligent as it can be, will never comprehend the workings and ways of God. We are not built to nor do I want a God so small I can understand all he does.

Yet though I can’t comprehend why it seems God allows some things and not others or why I must go through some valleys I don’t want to, I still seek and see Him. When I open my eyes I can ‘see’ Him by feeling his strength and his peace. I see his unmistakable brush strokes in nature. I trust him to watch over my loved ones even when his hand isn’t visible and his plans are a mystery. When I look, I see.

Lord, thank you for making yourself found when we seek you wholeheartedly. Give me a heart that continually longs to ‘see’ you more. May such a heart beat in my children. May the people of America who so clearly seek peace and purpose, fix their eyes on you and find what they seek! Amen

Thank you for this message . He is there, and when we seek and knock, he will answer.
