Through the years of working with teens at church, we have attended different conferences & events but none that I love like Dare2Share. Sure, we have fun, listen to great worship bands (Kutless this year), and hear great speakers… but those are not the best part. The best part is the purpose of D2S as seen in the name- to share truths with teens then equip them to go share the gospel with others.
The tools given to the youth to share their faith are inspired. Still… sharing our faith is hard. Beginning a conversation that leads to the gospel is awkward. (One of their shirts for sale says- ‘Awkward is Awesome!).
Though the focus of D2S is on teens… I wonder how many of us as adults are out there sharing the gospel with others? I know I feel convicted by how I would have to answer that question. I walk around daily with the greatest news ever and yet how often do I tell others about it or engage in conversations about how to share it more?
With this in mind, I’d like to take a moment to share some tools taught by D2S to help teens… and adults… share the good news. This tool has 3 parts beginning with an acrostic for the word GOSPEL which explains the good news from beginning to end.
- G- God created us to be with Him
- O- Our sins separate us from God
- S- Sins cannot be removed by good deeds
- P- Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again
- E- Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life
- L- Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever more
This acrostic is taught, practiced, and even shouted out over and over to help teens memorize it.
Lucky for us, there is a second thing that can help us remember the acrostic- the “Life in 6 words” app that can be downloaded to any smart phone. Get it? Life in 6 words- God Our Sins Paying Everyone Life! The app even has a conversation starter before it gives the GOSPEL acrostic and Bible verses for each part.
The third and last part of this tool is a video by Propaganda (aka Jason Petty). He shares this acrostic for GOSPEL in such a creative way that reaches especially young people… though I’m not so young anymore and I love it! ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymfh6RJezQ4 )
Beginning a conversation about the gospel is awkward for us all- teen and adult alike- yet isn’t that what we are called to do in the Great Commission of Matthew 28? So with that in mind, can I encourage everyone to download the app for free, learn the acrostic, and dare to be awkward?
Lord, give me not only the opportunity but also the courage to be awkward! Thank you for the work and app done by D2S to help spread the good news of the gospel! Now help me to put it into motion! Amen!
