finding treasure

What a wonderful start to this day! My coffee on one side, Bible in my lap, and to my other side a window raised letting in the sound of the rain hitting the metal roof. Such peace floods my soul! (I wonder… do I really have to get up and go to work after this?)

For two days now the blog from Wednesday has been sinking further into my heart. As I view the beauty of nature, I think ‘faint whisper’. As I sit listening to the driving rain, ‘faint whisper’. God’s fingerprints are everywhere yet He is so much more. Even as awesome as creation stands, it is but a faint whisper of all God is and what he is capable of! Job’s ‘faint whisper’ comment has stirred my heart to dwell on the greatness of God and I have been so blessed!

More treasure is found today in Job 28 as he describes the efforts of man to dig down to the roots of mountains to find hidden gems, gold, and silver. Then he asks-

“But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? Man does not comprehend its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.” Job 28:12

The older I get the more I value wisdom and understanding. The richest life is not found in accumulated possessions or in the accolades of success but in gaining wisdom, in seeing the bigger picture and my place in it. After going on several verses about where wisdom is not found, Job writes-

“God understands the way to it and he alone knows were it dwells… He looked at wisdom and appraised it; he confirmed it and tested it. And, he said to man, ‘The fear of the Lord- that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.” Job 28: 23, 27-28

The wisdom that brings peace? The understanding of who we are in the world? It comes from knowing God and reverencing his name! This is the treasure I seek. This is the faint whisper I listen for. This is what my heart yearns for.

Lord, You are mighty and awesome! My heart thirsts for you, the Living Water. Only You can fill my hunger for more, for your wisdom. Teach me heart to know you, to see You, to hear your faint whispers all around me. How my heart and life are blessed by You! Amen
