Ever jumped into a situation, leadership role, or job then felt the question: ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ rise within you? I have. I thought I was ready, prepared, and skilled for the task only to find out otherwise. Check out the Hebrews when they left Egypt-
“The Israelites went up out of Egypt armed for battle.” Exodus 13:18
Over 400 years in Egypt and no military or arms training because of their slave status yet they thought they were ready to battle it out with whoever stood in their path to the Promised Land. Thank goodness God had a better perspective…
“When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road though the Philistine country though that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’ So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt armed for battle.” Exodus 13: 17-18
God knew the best route for them, he knew their maturity level, and he knew their skills & abilities. He took them the long way rather than the shorter route because they weren’t ready yet.
That same God looks out for his people still today. Though we question why a shorter, easier route is not ours to take, God knows us… he knows our levels of faith & maturity, he knows our weaknesses, and he knows what battles we are ready for and which we are not.
Lord, help me to trust you more and question less the direction we go together. Please stop me from jumping in headfirst without seeking your guidance. Help me to walk on by faith and not by sight. Develop in me a deeper, richer, more mature faith as together we walk this path you have me on. I love you, Lord, and I love the way you watch over and guide me! Amen!
