Two sets of words give this math teacher fits: chose/choose and desert/dessert.  I don’t understand why I get so tripped up but every time I have to write them I must really think about and sound them out… even then I may still use the wrong spelling.  Over the course of this last week, two of my classes having been reviewing the mathematical concepts involving finding the number of arrangements objects can be placed in or selected.  In notes, I used examples that required writing from both sets of these words and each time, my students lovingly corrected me. (Just trying to keep them on their toes… right?  I wish!) LOL!

I opened the Word this morning and my attention was snagged first by the use of the word ‘chosen’- spelled correctly of course… I mean we are talking the Bible.  Then I moved on past that word and found that after reading through a few verses my heart was moved by God’s love and selection process.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.  Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”  1 Peter 2: 9-10

In school, I was never the first one picked for athletic teams which probably had much to do with my skinny as a stick build mixed with my very limited athletic skills.  I understood why I was one of the last picked but it still didn’t endear me to PE events.  However, with Christ, I am chosen because he WANTS me not because I’m last in line and somebody has to pick me!  The same is true of you.  If you are a Christian, lift up your head and remember that no matter what you face today, God has CHOSEN you to be his child and he always watches over his children with great care.  (Remember Romans 8:28 – he will work it ALL out for your good!).  If you are not a Christian, God is calling you… he is choosing you to be his child.  Open your ears to hear and be amazed by the mercy, love, and grace he has waiting for you… his chosen child.

What a wonderful thought to begin my day with- I am chosen by God… you are chosen by God.  What love I feel!  What hope is mine!  What joy overflows my heart!  According to Peter, I have been chosen so that I can declare the praises of him who called me out of darkness into his wonderful light!  Lord, I lift up your holy name today in all that I write, speak and do!  You are worthy of all praise!  Thank you, Lord, for chosing choosing me!  Amen!
